Ferrari swaps Raikkonen's engine again

Kimi Raikkonen is to serve an additional 30-place grid penalty ahead of today's Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix following a second engine change of the weekend.

Ferrari driver Raikkonen was scheduled to start 18th on the grid after qualifying 13th in light of taking an initial five-place penalty for a gearbox change.

That followed a final practice session in which his car caught fire, forcing the Scuderia into the gearbox change, and also installing a previous spec of engine to ensure he could take part in qualifying.

With qualifying out of the way, Ferrari then decided to hand Raikkonen a new system, and other ancillary parts.

The Finn takes a 10-place penalty for a sixth internal combusion engine, plus five places apiece for a fifth turbocharger, MGU-H, energy store and control electronics, for 30 in total.

The upshot is, however, Raikkonen only drops one place on the grid to 19th, with McLaren duo Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button either side of him, with the latter serving a 70-place penalty.
